Crossing the Potomac River to enter the West Virginian town of Shepherdstown, many are surprised to see a cluster of painted, half timbered alpine chalets hugging the banks of the river. Their design, though perfectly suited to the German Alps, seems strangely out of place in the "wild and wonderful" mountain state, but it is here that you will find the Bavarian Inn. This family-run Shepherdstown institution has provided both locals and visitors with fine dining and accommodation for over 35 years, since 1977. With a well-stocked Rathskeller, this hostelry hosts a popular Oktoberfest on the third Sunday of September each year which draws visitors from all points of the US and beyond... yes, even from Germany!
The original photograph, taken in the gardens of the hotel during Oktoberfest 2012, shows the cherub of the fountain gazing between the buildings towards the distant Blue Ridge Mountains, far beyond the rail bridge which spans the river below. Typical to my style, this image has been digitally enhanced and blended with multiple texture layers to give it a painterly feel.

The vignette blends in so well. Love the composition of the photo and the creative treatment.

What a perfect painterly image Julia - you are just a magician with textures and this is an absolutely outstanding example of that!! Love it. F/L TGP
