Snow on Back Alley - Shepherdstown
This snowy winter scene shows a view from the backyard across Back Alley in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The snow laden branches partially obscure the view of the steeple of Trinity Episcopal Church, which rises above the neighboring houses to reach for the blue sky as the watery sunshine peeps through. Typical of so many small towns in the US, Shepherdstown is criss-crossed by many of these alleys, forming a grid of byways which provide utility access for the residents of the original lots in the center of this historic town, founded by Thomas Shepherd over 250 years ago.
As you look at the image, you can almost hear the quiet and feel the chilly nip of the crisp winter air, warmed only in the most sheltered spots by the valiant efforts of the winter sun.
